Laundering Athletic Apparel
Sports and workout routines mean smelly laundry. To help prevent laundry from smelling it helps to wear clothing made of natural fibers, like cotton or bamboo. The oil from our bodies bonds to synthetic fibers and can make them smell more. There is new technology in textiles though that is helping with this issue. In fact, I have seen clothing companies market that their clothing contains silver to prevent odor, much like Norwex microfiber! Regardless of the fiber, with heavy sweating and activity, clothing and towels will smell and your laundry routine has to be able to tackle it. The ideal detergent for this task is our liquid laundry detergent. It contains enzymes that are extremely effective at fighting tough smells. Be sure to wash on cold or cool, warmer water will harm the enzymes and make them ineffective. If you are already using our powdered detergent, fantastic! It is great at combatting odors, if you feel like you need a little more, add a splash of our Odour Eliminator. Again, keep the water on cool or cold so as not to kill the enzymes that it contains. Our laundry options make it easy to refresh your athletic clothing and gear.

Smelly, Hard to Wash Equipment
Keeping Gym Bags Fresh
I mentioned earlier that my boys play hockey. Before they started I assumed (and was SO wrong) that boys didn’t start smelling until they were older. Bless my naive mom heart, they stink to high heaven when they get off the ice. We get their gear off in a hurry because we are rushing on to the next thing. The wet, sweaty gear gets thrown in the dark bags and zipped up. Often, we are busy the rest of the day and don’t have time to launder the equipment before ice time early the next morning, this is a recipe for disaster….unless you have the air freshener bags. I love the slim ones to put inside each skate and a large one for the rest of the bag. They are charcoal and unscented, so they will absorb and neutralize odors and wetness, keeping the funk at bay. Another benefit is the bags are made of sustainable bamboo and they are environmentally safe.
With my boys playing sports, I am especially grateful that I found Norwex. If I hadn’t been introduced to Norwex, I’d likely be dousing my kids’ equipment in aerosol sprays (you all know the yellow can that I am talking about) and using harsh chemicals to “clean” their gear. I was never anti harsh chemical before I found Norwex, in fact, I used straight bleach on the regular. I was originally attracted to the products because they just worked, and really well. Now, reducing the number of chemicals that my family and I are exposed to is a passion. There are so many harmful things in the products that are marketed to us as “healthy” and as things to protect our family, when in fact they are quite the opposite. Moms are busy, and can’t research everything….. there are things to be done! I hope you have found this helpful, what is your biggest challenge with odor control?
